7 best things to do in Kandy
1. LEARN ABOUT SPICES IN THE SPICE GARDEN
Sri Lanka is well known for its spices. It's also the land of my favorite spice: cinnamon. There are a lot of spice gardens in Sri Lanka, just mention it to your TUK TUK or personal driver and he will take you there.
2. TAKE A LONG WALK THROUGH ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS
The Botanical Gardens are Sri Lanka’s largest and most impressive gardens with a staggering 2 million visitors a year.
3. SEE THE TEMPLE OF SACRED TOOTH
As in all of the Buddah temples, you need to take your shoes off, that's why be prepared for hot grounds. We literally burned our feet. Also, don't forget that your knees and shoulders must be covered.
Cost: 7,5 €
4. SEE THE TRADITIONAL KANDY DANCE
Kandy Dancing – “According to the legend, the origins of Kandyan dance lies in an exorcism ritual known as the Kohomba Kankariya, which was originally performed by Indian shamans who came to the island, from which the locals adopted the dance. ”
5. VISIT THE TEA FACTORY
Sri Lanka produces a 300,000 tonnes of tea yearly. Kandy is home to some incredible tea fields and factories. We took a tour around the factory, saw how the machines worked and then finished off with a tea tasting of their most popular teas.
6. TAKE A STROLL THROUGH KANDY CITY CENTRE AND AROUND THE KANDY LAKE
The Lake is located in the centre of the city so you can't miss it. The best way to explore the city is by foot or with tuk-tuk.
7. VISIT THE BIG BUDDAH
That monument was built not so long ago. Here you can enjoy the view of the Kandy from above.
As in all of the Buddah temples, you need to take your shoes off, that's why I recommend you to wear socks.
